My Hunting Life... In A Blog.

When I say "I shoot my own food" not many people take me seriously. Can you blame them?

Over the last 16 years of hunting, foraging, vegetable growing and general crop protection in the UK, I've learnt a lot about harvesting my own food. This, in turn, has brought me much closer to my hunter gatherer roots; and given me a deeper understanding of food, nature and the science that goes hand in hand with it.

I have of course, made many mistakes along the way, and these mistakes - as well as my own personal tips and general experiences as someone who entered the Fieldsports world as an adult - are what I would like to share with you all, in the hopes it will make your journey a little clearer, easier and more enjoyable!

Looking at my role in the future of Fieldsports

2026 marked the start of a new era for me reclaiming my independence and making my mark within the world of Fieldsports; which amongst other things has hiring a photographer and a PR Manager, releasing my book "Shooting Girl With An Afro: Memoir of a Black British Huntress", signing an International book publishing deal and becoming an Ambassador for the Sporting Equals charity.

The work that I carry out with my PR Manager behind the scenes on the SGWAA profile is ongoing, and is continuing to help put me exactly where I need to be - talking to those on the periphery that might be curious about the Fieldsports community and need to see someone they can relate to, to convince them to step over the threshold.

Some exciting collaboration projects are in the pipeline for later in the year meaning I will be able to spend more time helping others to find their own pathway into the countryside life - and on a global scale - watch this space!

What do you do with your rabbits?

I was asked that question recently so thought I'd share what happens after the shot, when I get home.

Of course everything I shoot gets eaten if it's in good condition, but I've also shown friends and acquaintances how to prepare the meat themselves, so even if they don't want to shoot they can still take meat in fur and feather from me and get a closer connection with their food 💥

"This some serious gourmet *ish..."

Pest control. Some people do it as their business. Some do it for sport. I do it for food - and to help protect local plants and grounds.

Rabbit is one of the most sustainable meats out there, yet it is not spoken about enough. Some people have tried it once, cooked one way and decided it's not for them. More fool you.

Last week I spent a few hours on an estate that was rife with rabbits - so much so, I stumbled on several occasions because they have damaged the grounds so much, everywhere!!

The Neos scope was a joy to use on the FX air rifle - see if you can spot the cheeky rat that got it, and the muntjac couple I paused to watch at the end!

When NOT to take the shot...

This muntjac buck was in a perfect position when I started stalking him from 600 yards away. I spotted him on the thermal and made my way as quickly as possible along the hedgerows as I couldn't tell which direction he was headed - but I had an idea...

Lo and behold, I was right. He was heading towards the huge woodland behind my permission. I called him a couple of times whilst he was still in the 'safe' zone but he wouldn't stop in position (his bum was facing me) so all I could do was get some footage and watch as he slipped away.

But, I would much rather have the thrill of the chase, be outdoors getting exercise and watch this beautiful creature disappear for another day than go home seeing nothing - or not go out at all.

Next trip I will be taking someone out who is completely new to stalking and I can't wait to watch their joy as they begin to learn the fieldcraft that goes hand in hand with being this connected to wildlife and nature ✨️

The new HikMicro Neos thermal scope is now on my air rifle, so I took a chance to get to grips with it out on rabbits.

I didn't have much chance as it turns out!

And that is the role of the pest controller. Just because you get good days, doesn't mean you won't get bad ones - but you still have to get up, get out, and try.

And even on the empty-handed days, I still get fresh air, a bit of exercise and a chance to play with the latest optics technology!

My first fallow stalk ended empty handed - due to pure excitement!

We saw him at 5am, around 250 yards away. This was further than I am comfortable taking a shot, and since both myself and my guide enjoy the craft of "stalking", we crept through the trees and along the woodland edge until we could get no closer.

Unfortunately the group were moving away from us at the dame time, oblivious to our presence but grazing their way - very quickly I noticed - to the opposite woods.

So at 170 yards - 10 yards further than my previous furthest successful shot - I tried to steady my heartbeat and wait for him to get into a good position.

I missed. They ran.

We spent the next 45 minutes or so trying to cut them off the other side but it was too late, they were long gone, hidden deep in the woods.

What a fascinating experience for my first fallow stalk! Exciting, educational and humbling - and with a great guide to boot! He needs to be removed from the gene pool so I'll be back for sure 💥

This footage is taken on the Habroks binoculars which I tried to switch to night mode for a clearer picture - but I couldn't focus in my excitement 😂
